This was an indulgent smoothie when I was feeling a bit down, you know those days when you feel a bit emotionally overwhelmed by life, when you want to move things along but everything seems to conspire to hold you up? I needed to step back and let it all go for a while. This was my time-out.
It was also the morning the shopping was to be delivered but the fridge on the van had broken down and all our chilled items had to be removed from the order, so no coconut water and there was no nut milk left. I had to have some of my husband’s rice milk. This was very much an improvised smoothie, but it turned out really well! I felt comforted and like I’d had a loving hug from the inside. Even better that it was served in a peanut butter jar!
It might seem a little indulgent, but it is still full of healthy ingredients including protein, healthy fats, potassium, B vitamins, magnesium and fibre.
It’s a thin smoothie, in fact it would make a very good chocolate sauce!
Measurements are approximate.
Vegan, Gluten-free and Organic where Possible.
Ingredients
1 small ripe Banana (use frozen if you want a thicker smoothie)
1 Tbsp Peanut Butter (or any other nut butter)
1 Heaped Tbsp Gluten-free Oats
2 Tbsps Raw Hemp Seeds*
2 Dried Apricots
Small Glass Organic Rice Milk – but I would have preferred to use Almond Milk
1 Tbsp Raw Cacao Powder*
Blend and pour into a glass jar.
Top with 1 Tbsp Raw Chocolate Mulberry Chips* &/or Grated Raw Chocolate
and 1 Tsp Finely Ground Raw Almonds Or Peanuts
Only one musc video for this: it reminds me of all those evenings I laid with my tranny under my pillow trying to stay awake long enough to see if Radio Caroline DJ Johnnie Walker would pick me to say goodnight to at midnight with this Percy Sledge track. (He never did, but I never stopped hoping and listening).
(If you’re reading this via email you’ll need to visit the blog to play the video).

I think I could learn a lot from you. Anyone who puts peanut butter in a smoothie is alright by me! Lovely to wallow in Percy Sledge’s voice again too, though I never wanted Johnnie Walker to mention me I often listened. Mum could never understand how I went through radio batteries so quickly 🙂

Lol! Peanut butter was a 60s discovery too, though these days it is the healthier sugar-free kind and home-made almond or cashew nut butter.

I haven’t progressed beyond Sun-Pat. As I said, I could learn a lot here!

Haha That’s what I’m here for! Check out the list of ingredients and try to buy one that doesn’t have palm oil in it – responsible for destruction of rainforests in Indonesia, habitat of Orang Utans etc. Serious implications for wildlife, local people and climate change. Here endeth the first lesson 😉

Percy Sledge and a great recipe. A winning combo. Would you consider posting your piano stories at the Salon today?

OMG!! Radio Caroline!! Good grief I thought I was the only one who knew about that! I also had the tranny under the pillow listening to bbc world news and the shipping forecast, of all things. I was really little, but imagined all these huge ships going on adventures all over the world. (Blimey its just gone 9am and I’m down Nostalgia Road already, haha!) Anyway, your smoothie looks delicious but I’ll have to pass on this one. I cannot stand peanut butter one bit. I could faff around with an alternative I suppose, or leave it out altogether. 😀

Oh no, I thought you would tell me off for tempting you again 😃 You could use almond butter. I am completely addicted to peanut butter!

Oh you redeemed yourself with that salad the other day, so its all good! 😀 No nut butter at all…..makes me want to go have a chat with the U-bend I’m afraid. Its the texture. I’m the same with wet egg things, (scrambled, or omelette) UGH! I’ll try your smoothie this weekend sans nut butter and see how we go. It’ll just be a healthy smoothie concoction! 😀

How about a little avocado? Sounds weird but it goes really well with chocolate and is healthy too!

Really? yes it sounds very VERY weird, but I trust your foodie knowledge, so I will give it a go. I do like avocado, but never had it with chocolate, hmmm. Thanks, I’ll let you know how I get on!
